Self Portrait
A self portrait created from a photograph cut into pieces which were then spread from one another – the result termed an “exploded image”. There is no visual information missing except the spatial relationships of the pieces. An interest with exploded images was to alter the amount spread between fragments to find the maximum dispersion where the image is still decipherable. After explorations with other images, the use of a nude picture gave a meaningful, though subjective, measure of perceptibility – in this case, the minimum spacing where the visual result was comfortably displayed was sought.
